The Academy has a unique system of clinical bases -66 chairs (58 of them are clinical ones) that are situated in 80 treatment preventive establishments and are designed for 9070 beds. Every year members of the chairs provide consultations for more than 230 000 patients and make up to 22 000 most complicated surgeries.

The scientists of the Academy develop and provide the programme on prevention and treatment of socially dangerous diseases, maternity and childhood protection, ecology, healthy life style development, they take part in the work of Coordination Council of Oblast State Administration in healthcare reforming.

Due to the implementation of National Programme on Family Medicine in the Oblast in 2001-2004, it was made possible to start 697 offices of physicians of general practice-family medicine who had had special training in this specialty at the Academy.

Internship was introduced 30 years ago as the main form of training for young specialists. The training fro interns covers 48 specialties at 45 chairs. From 800 to 1000 interns from 10 regions of Ukraine and Autonomic Republic of the Crimea are trained every year.

During recent five years 2936 interns have been attested and have received the certificates of physician-specialist. In 2001 the training for leaders of interns in practical healthcare was launched to improve training for interns.
